The development of efficient and highly reliable traction inverters is nowadays of great importance considering the continuous increase of battery electric vehicles (BEVs) share in the automotive industry. Gen2 CoolSiC™ MOSFET -based Double-sided cooled (DSC) modules for traction EV applications offer best-in-class thermal performance and power density thanks to their innovative double-sided cooling approach and optimized symmetrical electrical layout. To support engineers in the early stages of application and help them evaluate the power module performance, Infineon Technologies AG offers a compact, easy-to-use, DSC HybridKIT™ that can be used as a reference design for project-specific developments. This evaluation kit incorporates all essential components of an inverter in one system. For cooling purposes, the DSC HybridKIT™ includes a plastic aluminum cooler from Quarder. This cooler is specially designed and optimized for the DSC module to allow efficient heat dissipation and great in-design flexibility. The performance of the DSC HybridKIT™ is experimentally assessed using two separate test setups, i.e., static measurement with an inductive load, and inverter/e-drive testbench with two identical mechanically coupled permanent magnet synchronous motors (IPMSM). The results obtained from these tests confirm the superior thermal and electrical performance enabled by DSC technology and its refined cooling system. These findings establish the kit as a robust reference design for high-performance automotive applications.
